This barn door with a herringbone design was built from scratch to fit a wide hallway entrance.
The project
The hallway entry where we planned to install a barn door is huge and we couldn't find a door that would fit the space. We decided to build our own barn door. We also had to adjust the way we installed the Rolltrack railing because the top of our hallway has an air conditioner vent.
We purchased 12mm plywood for the base and white Primed Pine DAR to create a pattern for the front of the barn door. The materials cost under $350.
Word of advice, check the weight of all your materials. I had the fun job of weighing my door on scales. The only hard part of the build was cutting the door to size.
I couldn't find tile spacers to make sure the herringbone panels were evenly spaced so I used puzzle pieces.
Once that was all done, we painted the door with leftover paint we had lying around, and installed the handles and the Rolltrak pieces on the door.
