Feature wall with timber panelling

This living room was transformed by an attractive feature wall using timber panelling and wallpaper.

The project

We transformed our living room wall using Bunnings products.

We found a special edition wallpaper at Bunnings and ordered through the Special Orders desk. If you're looking to do the same, purchase two extra rolls to make sure you have the correct alignment around edges. We used Superfresco easy wallpaper adhesive to secure it to the wall.

For the wooden panel section of the wall, we first painted the wall black to hide the original beige colour. My husband cut the panels using a mitre saw and used a nail gun to secure them to the studs. We also used liquid nails where there were no studs.

• Specrite 42mm x 18mm x 2.7m pre-oiled Merbau FJ screening

• Masking tape

• Selleys Liquid Nails

@nafisa, the flooring we did 2 years ago. It’s done over the existing tiles. It’s vinyl waterproof flooring. Colour is Luxury Grey Oak - something - I am sorry but I

don’t remember exactly the brand. You can visit Bunnings though - they have good display. 

Also, we have added the underlay. 

I have attached some after and before pictures of the flooring.

Hi everyone

I’m just trying to copy this finish. 
It looks lush . 
how are they fixing the Merbau to the walls ?

I understand the nail gun concept but I’m not understanding where to put the nails etc

Any help is appreciated

Hi @Mishmash,

Let me mention @Monika1 to see if there was any additional information they could provide about how they hung the panelling. 

They refer to using a nail gun to attach the timber to the studs. If you are not familiar with the construction of a stud wall and what you'll be nailing into behind the plaster sheeting, I've created an image and placed it below for you. You'll have the row of noggins in the middle of the wall to nail into and hopefully the top and bottom of the frame if they're accessible. As they mentioned, everywhere else will require construction adhesive. 

I haven't personally tried it, but I would imagine shooting a nail into just the plaster would be better than no nail at all. It won't grip anywhere near as well as if it went into a timber stud, but I'd think it would hold to an extent.
