A desk build inspired this sturdy outdoor table made using Pine sleepers and joined together with dowels and glue.
I built another version of my desk for the patio. We needed a table to replace our old plastic one.
I used Ironwood Sienna Treated Pine Sleepers (200 x 50mm 2.4m) for the tabletop and cut it to size with a circular saw. I joined the pieces together using dowel joints and glue.
It took more than two hours to sand using a small Ryobi 300W Random Orbital Sander. I started with 80-grit sandpaper and then moved to 220-grit sandpaper.
I applied three coats of varnish over a week, letting it dry for 24 hours before applying the next coat. After the final coat, I did a final sanding with 220-grit sandpaper.
The table is sturdy, looks rustic and should last for a long time. It cost around $150 for the raw materials and the table measures 600mm wide, 2200mm long and 880mm high.
