Timber feature walls installed in an entryway, with black robe hooks and a timber storage nook bench.
To create more character and life in our entry walkway. Also, to bring together the aesthetic features of the entry walkway and the inbuilt wall shelves with ladder we had built in the formal room.
Plan, design and measure
Planned and sketched a rough design and measured requirements for sketch design.
Wooden feature wall
Built the wooden dress Pine on and around the original suede paint effect we originally painted for the bulk plaster wall. Then used masking tape to hold the corners together whilst the wood glue was drying.
Used wood filler to cover gap corners and imperfections of the wood, then sanded and cleaned the dress Pine once all built.
Then used the green frog tape in readiness for staining the wood. Applied two coats of Cabot's interior stain in Teak colour and applied one coat gloss finish of Cabot's Cabothane clear.
Demi-round wall panels and wooden board for hooks
We used ScotchBlue tape on the ceiling architrave as a guide measurement to put the wooden board, as this needed to be centred. Built the border for the Demi-Round panels using Porta moulding white Pine FJ primed DAR 2.4m x 4, then built the Demi-Round panels onto the wall.
Used wood filler to cover any nails and imperfections of the panels, then lightly sanded and cleaned the Demi-Round panels, borders and wooden board.
Used Porta moulding Pine panel mould clear for the border of the wooden board. Also, lightly sanded and cleaned the wooden board moulding. Used the gap filler (white) to fill in all the corner and border gaps, as well as gaps in between the wall panels where required for a seamless look.
Used Dulux semi-gloss paint (colour mixed using our original wall colour code - similar to a blizzard white) to paint the borders, Demi-Round panels, wooden board and mouldings. Applied two coats.
Note: We used Liquid Nails as well as anchoring the Demi-Round panels and wooden rack board onto the wooden structure of the house so they do not fall off or collapse.
Mounted hooks onto wooden board
Used the Adored black wall mount beau robe hooks.
Storage bench nook
Built the storage bench made to measure in proportion to the feature walls, then used wooden filler to cover the nails and wood imperfections. Sanded and cleaned the wood, and used the gap filler to fill corners and gaps.
We used the same paint as the Demi-round wall panels (Dulux semi-gloss) and then installed two Pinnacle black fixed pin butt hinges. Also installed two gas struts.
Completion and decor
We upcycled an old serving tray (previously maroon colour) and spray painted it with Dulux Duramax flat black spray paint.
