Fence palings and decking timber used to make a side gate for less than $100.
I made this 1.8m high x 900mm wide garden gate to match my 1.8 m high fence. It gives me access to a reserve at the back of my property. It was very cost effective. I was quoted $550 - $650 for someone to make a similar gate. I bought all my materials from Bunnings Botany (always great staff in the the timber yard) for a total cost of approximately $80.
Buy six fence palings 150 x 19 x 1800mm.
Cut decking timber to borders at 45 degree angles.
Screw the decking timber border to palings.
Attach brackets and hang on fence.
Garden gate hung on fenceline.
The lock mechanism attached to the gate.

Good Morning @Oreoprojects
Thats a nice looking gate, and would be so nice to access the reserve! Thats a nice idea!
With the hinges, are they screwed to a fence pailing or to a post?
Mmmm looking at your photo maybe they are screwed through to the rail?
Dave
Hi. Dave
Behind the paling is indeed a fence post. This gives it the stability.
Cheers
Great looking gate @Oreoprojects, they can be quite challenging to build in keeping it all square when its an all timber framer.
