A Pine panel used to make an outdoor kitchen servery.
We have always wanted a bar bench on the window ledge outside our kitchen window. I think more for the look of it, but it also comes in handy as a servery from inside the kitchen to the patio outside. Recently we thought we'd have a go at it, so we bought a Pine bench.
We decided to use Pine timber instead of some leftover Merbau panel, due to concerns about possible tannin leakage onto the tiles below.
David decided to attach a board along the front of the windowsill.
Securing the board so it was secure.
We made a side panel to cover the windowsill entirely and create a neat look.
Staining it with a Merbau-coloured stain to match the kitchen bench inside.
I then applied a coat of matte clear interior varnish to help protect it and make it water resistant. I also added a moulding along the metal window frame to neaten the appearance.
We couldn't be happier with the result. It makes the space look modern and creates a useful purpose. Below is a video which shows our process.
