This stunning bathroom renovation makes a feature of a load-bearing beam with ornamental beams running off it.
We had no intention of renovating our downstairs bathroom at this point in time. But when we found out that we had structural engineers (termites) happily chomping on load-bearing studs we had to get into it.
The tiling was so bad that I warned people not to look at it as it could cause eye soreness.
Our horrible old shower.
We totally enjoyed this demolition. The wall near the toilet (full of termites too) and at the front right had to go to make the bathroom bigger.
New bathroom and roof ready to go.
Lights and ceiling in.
Tiling and waterproofing.
New vanity and sheeting up. Shower taps installed.
The main beam in the ceiling carries a lot of weight from upstairs. My husband made 100mm x 75mm steel posts to support the beam and carry the weight. From there we just built the bathroom around the beam with no plan. The beams off the main beam were just an afterthought and don’t carry any weight at all.
Nearly there. Just waiting for shower glass.
Finished! We love the end result.

I absolutely adore everything about this project, @annettespanski! From the exposed beams to the luxurious amount of space dedicated to the shower. The floating sink and circular mirror are really the icings on the cake for me. A+ work all around.
I can't wait to see what project you tackle next.
