What are the easiest vegetables to grow?

TomatoPlant.pngA simple herb garden is a good place to start. Parsley, mint, coriander, rosemary, basil, chives and thyme. For vegetables you can plant things like beetroot, broccoli, cabbage, capsicum, carrot, cauliflower, celery, cucumber, lettuce, spinach, spring onion, sweet corn, tomato and zucchini. - greygardener

I like CathM's advice to "feed your soil, not your plants". If you are starting out it's important to have good soil.

In the cooler months you can plant things like potatoes, spring onions, carrots and capsciums which are all pretty easy. Then as it gets warner plant the likes of lettuce and tomato, which can be a little harder because of pests but are worth growing. - Isobel

I would suggest mint, which grows like a weed (probably best to keep in pots for that reason) and any leafy greens, which don't need as much sun as a lot of other vegetables. You can also pack them in together so you don't need a lot of space. Then when you've got some confidence you can move up to tomatoes. - CathD

I have a 9 square metre raised vegetable garden that has failed in most cases due to the summer heat, but I have in it a superb mint ground cover. Ideally, because this grows like a "weed" it has covered this area nicely and smells absolutely divine. - geejaybee

My tip for people starting out is don't get bogged down in research. I remember spending hours on Google, trying to research everything. I ended up feeling so overwhelmed, I was actually stressing about planting the wrong things together, I was worried that I'd have to test pHs every week - I failed science in school lol.

So my advice is; start small, plant veggies that you'll eat and have fun while playing in the dirt. - Juliapinkiepie

For indoor gardeners, look at herbs that you can grow indoors, as well as lettuce greens, kale, carrots and maybe even give some mini tomatoes a try. You will find some more tips in this article about growing vegies and herbs in a small space. - Jason

Herbs will grow great in a window space. Most herbs do not like full harsh sun and thrive in a bit of shade. If anything, if you want to grow herbs indoors, choose suitable pots, good quality potting soil, fertiliser, water and TLC. All of my herbs are grown in pots as you can control their growth, and then they don’t get too woody, and you tend to use them more for your cooking. I learned a tip that for all indoor plants including herbs, water them in the bath with a shower head to copy the rain every now and then. Any indoor plants love this. - Grub80

Kind of a Big Deal

@Jason  Diggers have an amazing variety of Heirloom Tomatoes.
Also Floriana have beautiful varieties of Truss Tomatoes.
Tomatoes are quite expensive at the supermarkets so growing them in your own garden will be rewarding 😊
