resize doors

Current internal (toilet) door is 2040x720. I’m thinking to change to “small French doors”. One secondhand bifold doors that I’m looking to get is measured at 770X2010 with each doors 385x2010.

I would assumed that I need 2 doors of 355x2040. So I need to cut 30mm on each 385x2040 doors? 15mm each side of each doors? And need to add 30mm to the height? Which I could reused the off cut 15mm at the top and 15mm bottom of the doors. Is this sound possible to do without affecting the door structure? The bifold doors look like a solid wood? Door pic attached.

what is the best tools to cut this door? Can I bring to Bunnings to cut?

Re: resize doors

Hello @WyndhamChic

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about resizing your bifold doors.

One way to tell if you bifold doors are solid is to lift them. Solid doors are often very heavy. Does the door flex when you press it in the middle. Hollow doors will sometimes have a bit of give in them. This tells you that it is a hollow door. Solid timbers are firm all the way around and does not flex when you push into them. If you need to 30mm, I'm sorry Bunnings does not provide a door cutting service. I suggest investing in a circular saw, this will allow you to cut the door yourself, not only does it give you chance to add to your D.I.Y tool kit, but it also allows you to upgrade your skills.

If your door is solid timber, then cutting it should not be an issue. But if it is hollow, I suggest engaging the services of a builder. They will be able to cut and rebuild your door

If you are not confident in with cutting with a power tool, perhaps a family member might be able to cut for you. One other option is to post the job in Airtasker or Hipages and pay for the cutting service.

If you need further assistance, please let me know.

Eric
