Hi, I'm hoping to turn an old cupboard into a small vanity for ensuite and I'd like to create a tiled top. The cupboard has a top made from MDF, which is painted (water based). What would you suggest I seal the MDF top with prior to tiling ? Thanks
Hello @4evarenovating
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about your plans to tile your cupboard.
I suggest having a quick look at these discussions - Tiled side table by @lifestylebymari and Entry table makeover with mosaic tiles by @kimamery. With the first table you can clearly see that the tiles can go on unpainted MDF, and the second table also shows you a painted surface being tiled over.
If the paint on your table surface is still very solid, it would be possible to sand the surface and tile directly over that area. However, if you are after a waterproofing compound, I suggest looking at the Crommelin 1L Flat Aquablock Waterproof Primer Undercoat. My best advice is to make sure that the waterproofing is fully cured before you tile over the surface.
Here are some amazing, tiled tables our Workshop members have shared.
