The bathtub tap outlet turns rusty at the head, see photos. Instead of replacing the whole outlet can I just replace the head portion only? I tried to remove the head portion but is very difficult to remove. Any suggestions?
Hi @Mikelaw,
Thank you for your question about replacing the head of your bathtub spout.
It certainly looks like there is a join at the tip of the spout. I suspect that this is an aerator, which should definitely be replaceable.
Grab some multigrip pliers and a rag. Wrap the head of the spout with the rag to protect the chrome on the tap. Rotate the aerator counterclockwise to remove it.
You can then take the old aerator in store with you to compare with a replacement. You will simply need to match up the thread size to confirm compatibility.
Once home, you'll be able to twist the new aerator back into the position of the old one.
Let me know how you go and if there are any further questions, please don't hesitate to ask.
