How to repair basin spindle where locking nut is too long?

I replaced the basin spindle with a 1/4 turn spindle. Everything works but when I screw the flange onto the locking nut the flange does not screw down far enough to reach the basin. The length of thread on the locking nut is longer than the thread on the old washer spindle. I used a Shaw and Mason 1/4 turn basin spindle. Is there an alternate locking nut that has a shorter thread for the flange?

Re: 1/4 turn spindle locking nut too long

Hello @jack58

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's wonderful to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about the spindle cover on your tap.

Before I make any recommendations regarding your tap cover. Would it be possible for you to post a photo of the flange installed and the spindle without the flange. This will give our members a chance to have a look at its assembly. We can then make recommendations on how to move forward.

If you have any other questions we can help with, please let us know.

Eric
