How to remove and replace waste drain?

I removed old tiles and glue from bathroom floor, but I do not have any idea how to replace old waste drain.

Can anyone please advise, how to replace it? Looks like this metal head is attached to downpipe, it's moving together with it.

 Thank you!

Re: How to remove/replace waste drain

Hello @mancubus

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's wonderful to have you join us, and thank you for sharing your question about your floor drain.

The general sequence of events is once you've removed the old tiles the old drains are moved as well. Usually, the drain itself is held in place with concrete and must be broken up to remove the old drain housing. Once the drain is removed you can put the new drain on top without gluing it on so that the tiler knows that there will be a drain in that position of the floor.

This is then followed by floor levelling and then waterproofing. The tiler will install a leak control flange on top of the drain before they waterproof the entire area. Please note that some states require that a registered waterproofing specialist apply the waterproofing. Please check with your local council on the rules and regulations on waterproofing in your area.

If you are unsure or do not have the necessary tools to remove the drain safely, I suggest engaging the services of a registered plumber to remove the drain. I suggest having a look at the Holman 100mm DWV PVC Octagon Floor Grate as a possible replacement for your old drain. Make sure to show your tiler before making any purchase concerning your drain.

Please remember to stay safe and make sure to gloves, safety goggles and a dust mask when cutting drilling or working in a dusty environment.

If you need further assistance, please let us know.

Eric
