How to fix broken bathtub grate?

The outside ring is fine. But the grate has snapped away. It looks as though it’s all attached to the drain pipe and can’t be replaced. Can anything be done?

Re: How to fix broken bathtub grate?

Hello @jessvan

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about how to fix your bath waste.

It appears to be a Caroma 40mm White Plug and Waste with Spacer (see image below) and you'll notice that the locking ring is located at the bottom which prevents the bath waste from simply being pulled or screwed out. The only way to remove it is to access it from the side of the bath. This will involve the tiles at the side of the bath to be removed and then the side panel taken out. You can then use a shifter to loosen the locking nut of the plug and waste to replace it with a new one.

Another solution you can try is to cover the bath waste with an EZYFIX 50mm Chrome Retrofit Waste Insert And Plug Sink/Bath Repair Kit. Simply apply some silicone adhesive on the old waste and press the cover onto it. Wipe away the excess and allow the silicone to cure before using the bath.

If you have any other questions we can help with, please let us know.

Eric
