How to fill a ditch in bathroom from old shower?

I have removed my old shower and the old concert slabs surrounding it. Now I’m not sure what materials to fill the ditch with? Also should the waterproofing be done before or after filling it? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Re: How to fill a ditch in bathroom from old shower?

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @amateur1. It's fantastic to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about filling a floor.

Are you planning on re-tiling the entire floor? If so, waterproofing should be done after you've removed the tiles and filled this void with Dunlop 5kg Ardit Rapidset Repair Mortar.

Waterproofing needs to be done in one continuous layer across the entire floor, and it's not possible to repair small portions like this. I would recommend you enlist the services of a professional waterproofer to provide advice on the best way forward.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Hi Mitch,

Thanks for the product link. That’s great help.

I was hoping to just fill in the hole and re-tile that section to install a new shower.

That would be an easy solution, but it appears that your waterproofing in this area is now compromised, @amateur1. Unfortunately, to the best of my knowledge, to re-instate it, all tiles on the floor would need to be removed and the waterproofing applied to the whole floor, that's why I suggest speaking with a waterproofer to get their advice.
