How to connect to larger washing machine water inlet?

I have moved into an old house and the tap for the washing machine is 35mm, my washing machine hose is 30mm is there a converter I can buy?

Or do I need to change the tap?

Thanks Mike

Re: How to connect to larger washing machine water inlet?

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @Mike7021. It's brilliant to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about connecting a washing machine.

35mm is quite large for a tap thread, is it an older garden tap style? If you could show us a picture that would be helpful. Let me know if you need a hand uploading images.

Standard washing machine inlet hoses are typically have 19mm or 3/4 inch fittings. So, even your hose sounds like it is quite large. Are you measuring the outside of the fitting or the internal threads? Measurements are taken on the threads.

You might need to swap the existing tap for something more suited to a standard hose such as the Estilo Chrome Washing Machine Set. You'd then need to change your inlet hose to one with 19mm fittings.

Once we have some images and measurements of the threads, we might have more conversion options. At the moment, I can't think of a fitting that would convert 35mm thread to 30mm.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks so much Mitchell for your advice much appreciated.

Were on an old rural property the tap fitting was an old industrial looking tap.

It was far easier just to change the tap which I have done, all working now.

Thanks so much 😊
