Hello I’m in a rental. We had a shower leak a couple months ago where the shower head was constantly dripping. Have a linen cupboard behind the shower started getting mouldy and swelling. They came and ‘fixed’ it. Is it supposed to look like this. Also from the constant running of water the tiles/grout are stained yellow so is the drain cover. I don’t know how to remove the cover to clean. It also smells horrible like rotten egg. I have tried what feels like everything if I could please have some help .
Hi @Brianna0,
Starting with the drain cover, that's aged yellowed plastic so the likely hood of being able to clean it is slim.
The tile grout could be brightened with a cleaning product such as Long Life 750ml Grout Cleaner. You should ask permission first, but grout paint can provide instant results on aged stained grout that's impossible to clean.
Regarding your other images, the areas look to be in need of some repair. Gaps could be filled, surfaces cleaned and a new coat of paint would do wonders. Whether the owner wishes to complete that work is another thing.
A rotten egg smell from your drain is likely caused by hydrogen sulfide gas, which forms when bacteria break down organic matter like hair and soap scum in the drain. It could also be due to a dry P-trap, allowing sewer gases to escape, or a sewer line issue. To fix it, pour Drain Clean down it, and ensure the P-trap isn't dry. If the smell persists, a plumber may need to inspect the sewer line.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
