Hi all. A newbie here. We have bought a Mondella Resonance pin lever shower mixer in Matt Black to match all the other tap fittings in the unit. But when it comes to this mixer tap, we have run into a wall. The tap appears to be one complete unit so we were wondering if this can be unscrewed so we can just unscrew the old chrome one that is currently in the shower & just screw the new Matt black fitting over it? Or do we have to take the old one out completely & fix the new one in? It seems that the tiles have been put in after the mixer was installed originally so is this a job better suited to a plumber? We have 3 to do so looks like a mission
Hello @twisty68
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about your shower mixer.
The brass body and the black powder coat housing of the Mondella shower mixer are designed to work with each other. There is no guarantee that by removing the housing it will fit the brass body that is inside your wall. I'm afraid it will be necessary to engage the services of a plumber to remove the old shower mixer and replace it with the new one.
It is a much safer alternative as you will not be compromising the guarantee of the shower mixer. However, before you begin, I suggest finding a similar type of tile that you currently have in your shower. It will be necessary for the plumber to chip away at the wall and remove some of the tiles so that they can get access to the plumbing.
There is also the option of accessing the shower mixer from the other side of the wall, but it all depends on its location and accessibility.
