My dog got shut in the bathroom area accidentally for some time and tried to eat his way out. Looking for suggestions on how to tackle this. I was thinking of sanding/cutting the swollen wood off (what is it by the way, mdf, particles board?) and using wood filler to achieve shape and sand/adjust shape as necessary.
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @Luke5. It's brilliant to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about repairing architrave.
The material is MDF (medium-density fibreboard), which can swell and crumble when exposed to moisture. You can repair the damage by removing the swollen section and reshaping it using a product like Builders Bog. This filler can be moulded and sanded to recreate the original shape.
However, keep in mind that re-creating a moulding can be tricky. Depending on your skill level, replacing the entire length of moulding might be a better option. It would ensure a clean and seamless finish, especially since MDF doesn’t always take repairs well.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
