We’re looking to reno our bathroom but don’t want to completely gut it due to time and cost. We’re wondering if a budget idea instead could ve to lay new tiles on top of the existing tiles? After this we would paint the wall tiles white and also get someone to fit a shower screen and door.
We were initially thinking of just painting the floor tiles, which would probably be okay for most of the bathroom - but realised this wouldnt work long term for the shower floor tiles as hot water would likely mean the paint will peel.
Would love any thoughts/advice on our situation
Hi @didanaao
It is definitely possible to tile over tiles. I recommend having a quick look at our best advice - Can you tile over existing tiles? In it you'll find some excellent suggestions on how it can be accomplished.
In regards to painting the tiles, it is a very cost-effective method to upgrade the look of tiles without having to remove it.
Here are some fantastic painted tile projects our Workshop members have shared.

As a possible alternative to tiling your shower area, I suggest asking your plumber if it is possible to install a shower tray over the existing area.
Please remember to wear personal protection such as gloves, goggles and a mask when working on your renovation.
