Many Aussies and Kiwis are struggling with ever-increasing cost of living pressures and turning to D.I.Y. projects around the house and garden to save money and improve their homes.

This D.I.Y. July we are searching for Australia and New Zealand's best D.I.Y. projects of the year and offering the opportunity to get your work featured in the Bunnings Magazine.

It’s fantastic to see many high-quality projects shared already. Please don’t hesitate to show off your own handiwork as well as adding your comments and likes to the entries submitted to our project gallery

To participate, press the Share a project button at the top of any page on the Bunnings Workshop website. Include a brief description of your project, tools and materials used, the steps you undertook as well as before and after photos. Make sure you select the D.I.Y. July Australia or D.I.Y. July New Zealand label according to your country of residence before hitting the post button and submitting your entry.

If you need a hand with creating your post, please don't hesitate to ask. Our team will be more than happy to assist.

There are seven categories in this year's project search:

  • Best bathroom or laundry makeover

  • Best kitchen makeover

  • Best paint project

  • Best small project

  • Best upcycling makeover

  • Best community project

  • Best outdoor project.

Our judging panel includes Workshop's D.I.Y. expert Mitch Mclean, Dulux colour expert Andrea Lucena-Orr, Tegan Rundell from Ozito Tools, Kathy Casha from 3M and Bunnings Magazine editor Lisa Green.

Experienced renovator Claire O’Connell won best kitchen makeover for her outstanding renovation of a century-old Queenslander in the 2022 search as well as best upcycling makeover for her upcycled cabinet into bathroom vanity in the 2023 search.

Claire encourages everyone to have a go at their own D.I.Y. projects. “The thing to remember is that it’s okay to make mistakes,” she says. “Almost everything can be fixed or touched up. You’re more capable than you think.”

Australian winners will have their work featured in the September issue of the Bunnings Magazine, while winners in New Zealand will be featured in the Spring issue.

Many thanks to the supporters of the project search this year: Dulux, Scotch Painter’s Tape, Ozito and Monarch. We appreciate your support of the Workshop community and encouraging people to have a go at their own home improvement projects.

We look forward to seeing your projects soon. Don't forget that as per the terms and conditions, entries close at 11:50pm AEST on Sunday July 28, 2024. Good luck!
