How to find metal bed frame hardware replacements?

Dear All

Can anyone suggest where I can find square rods and bolts to assemble a metal bed frame? In particular, I am looking for those in the following image: (M8; bolt length 35mm ideally and fits in a 10 x 10 mm square hole in the bed frame)

I can see that these are available on ebay in the EU but have not been able to source any in Australia? It seems they should be readily available given how many beds are in the country, but I've hit a dead end. Thanks in advance.

Re: Metal bed frame hardware replacement

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @Mar1mot. It's fabulous to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about bed frame bolts.

This type of bolt typically suits older-style bed frames. It's not a connection method commonly seen on newer models, and I'm not aware of anything that would suit your needs.

I'm not sure if they could be useful, but we have the Hafele Bed Bracket Set.

Let me tag @Dave-1 and @Noyade to see if they have any thoughts.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Good Evening @Mar1mot

Interesting question for a first one  Which brings me to "Welcome to the Bunnings Community" Glad you dropped in, its a handy place to wander through.

Those bolts and end pieces reminds me of "Ikea" parts, It was my first thought as soon as i saw them.

Ikea Spare Parts might be a good place to start. Im not 100% sure but my mind went straight there.

Re: Metal bed frame hardware replacement

G'day @Mar1mot

I have those bolts from an old bed and have no use for them. Doubt I could find the nuts though (I will look).

I can make those threaded 'nut' inserts - however they won't look as pretty as those above.

Let me know what you think.

Cheers.

HI Noyade

I've been unable to find them from the other helpful suggestions in the blog trail. If you have spares or willing to make up 4x of the square rods (that will have a cap on them to prevent slipping through the bedframe holes) then please let me know what you would charge etc. Cheers

Re: Metal bed frame hardware replacement

They are listed!  But are currently "out of stock" sadly. Thanks for the info. Cheers

Hi @Mar1mot

In that case, the bolts can be bought anywhere and the Block nuts can be sourced from the US here....

They are in stock and they do ship internationally.

Re: Metal bed frame hardware replacement

Morning @Mar1mot

More than happy to help - no fee required, just the fun in trying.

Can you please show us a photo of the bed fitting? Apologies for asking - but are you absolutely sure they are M8 bolts and 10 mm square blocks?

I tinkered outside the other day - there is very little wriggle room with an 8 mm diameter bolt in that size block.

And we also need to centre the bolt exactly.

Dimensions required...

This gives you some idea of the tolerances.

10mm diameter round nuts on 10mm steel plate. The top nut is M6. The bottom is drilled and threaded for M8.

Even an M8 Gal bolt wants 12 mm on the shortest sides of it's associated nut.

Let us know which way you want to go - amateur or an American purchase.

No tariff from me. 😉

Cheers.

Re: Metal bed frame hardware replacement

Whatever the block size, I'm sure I can accommodate it and the length.

For the end - I was thinking of drilling curtain weights and welding to the block ends through the hole.

Cheers again.
